Description: Join Jim Bissell, curator of botany at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, on an off-trail hike to the museum's Koelliker Fen, a unique habitat with rare plant and animal communities: upland forest, sandy barrens and wet seepage areas fed by cold springs percolating through alkaline deposits of glacial gravel. Distinct plant communities including orchids, wildflowers, and poison sumac as well as animals like rare moths and dragonflies survive in this Geauga County treasure. Program is outdoors with steep grades, muddy, slippery footing, off-trail obstacles like poison sumac and downed trees. Participants must wear long pants, long sleeve shirt and waterproof knee high boots that will provide traction off trail. Program will be held even in the event of rain so rain gear may be needed. Directions to this Munson Township location will be provided after participants are registered. CONNECT with Activity in June! You've been cramped up all winter, but now the weather's reliably warmer. This program shouts "get out, get out, get out, and get active!"
