Description: Join us for Year 3 of the Geauga Gems Trekking Series and discover your Park District! Once registered, you have two paths to complete the program. Option 1: Complete 30 total hikes on any combination of trails before the end of 2022. Of your 30 hikes, 27 will be treks you’ll plan and take on your own, but three must be qualifying naturalist-led hikes. These hikes are identifiable on our website's Programs & Events page and filtering for the Geauga Gems Trekking Series. Option 2: Hike 60 miles of trails at Geauga Park District, which is 15 miles in each season of winter, spring, summer and fall. This option does not require naturalist-led hike participation. Upon registration for the series, you’ll receive an email with a link to a printable Geauga Gems Trekking Card to track your progress. You may also pick up a card at The West Woods Nature Center or Big Creek Park's Meyer Center. Throughout the year, keep your card with you to mark the self-guided treks you take, and bring your card to the naturalist-led hikes to be marked. Please note that each trail can only be counted twice on either option towards the completion, so this is a great opportunity to get out and discover the more than 70+ miles of trail at 27 open parks and preserves in the county. Finally, at year's end, first time participants who complete the series will receive a collapsible trekking pole and the Geauga Gems 2022 hiking medallion sticker to be awarded during an event in January 2023. Returning participants will receive the 2022 hiking medallion sticker for the hiking pole they received by participating in Year 1 or Year 2. For FAQs and more, please select Hiking under Activities above. See you on the trails!
